Angus Clyne Sculptures
Angus is a professional woodturner, landscape photographer and inspiring teacher working in rural Perthshire in Scotland. He produces beautifully turned wooden bowls, vessels and sculptures using sustainable woods from local forests.
By using a lathe, a roughly chainsawed block of wet wood is mounted and spun at a high speed as Angus shapes it with a selection of gauges and chisels. Once the wood is finished on the lathe, he polishes and smoothes the piece, then varnishes it up to ten times with Danish oil.
“My wood is local Scottish oak, elm, cherry and yew mostly. Wood that has often been infected with a fungus will often have spectacular black lines running through it, so I like to look out for things like that. I will then leave the wood outside for a good few weeks to allow it to age and spalt.”
Material: Angus creates his sculpture from local, sustainable Scottish wood.
Technique: Wood turning, hand carving, 10 layers of Danish Oil.
